About Cameron Akhavan

My wife and I love living in Ashburn and have created this community website to share what this town has to offer people who are moving here, interested in doing business here, or simply curious about the area. Below is how my family discovered and moved to Ashburn…

It was right out of college, in the early 80’s, when I first became interested in working in real estate. Loudoun County was the entire buzz back then. The ambitious projects to develop the area included plans to extend the Dulles Toll Road to Leesburg, attract fortune 500 companies to bring over their headquarters, build beautiful residential neighborhoods, and provide top-notch schools. The county’s intent was to create a modern city in the middle of all the farmland. It became evident to me that Ashburn would become the new technology and biotech center of the East Coast in decades to come.

Back then the area was mostly farmland. Route 7 was the main road to get here, a small two-lane street. While on the map I could see the enormous projects, residential and commercial, that were planned for the area, it was hard to imagine how all this could be accomplished in a couple of decades. I remember one day waiting for some land investor out at the intersection of Belmont Ridge and Waxpool Roads, you could wait there for hours before a car would pass by. I remember thinking to myself, it will take more than a hundred years before this place is fully developed.

After a few land development projects for investors in Loudoun County, I returned to Washington DC in the mid 80’s, where I became fully engaged in my successful real estate career, specializing in residential homes. It was not until the late 90s that I returned to Ashburn. My wife and I were recently married and were looking for a newer house with a backyard to raise our children. Upon my suggestion, we drove out to Ashburn and to my amazement, a beautiful city had been built. So much change had taken place; I actually lost my way around! Gone was the two-lane Route 7, now a four-lane highway. New roads, major boulevards, shopping centers, schools, and attractive planned subdivisions with a lot of green space surrounded us. It was clear we had found the place where we wanted to live and raise our family.

We moved into our new home that same year, which turned out to be the best decision we have ever made. Ashburn has become this quaint little modern town offering everything a family could ask for… and as we got to know our community we realized the people who live here share the same family values as us. The old neighborly spirit is alive and well in Ashburn, people go out of their way to take care of one another. You can always count on your neighbors to take care of your kids if you have to work late or to help you out in an emergency. It's that feeling of togetherness that makes living here special.

The town has a healthy nature-loving atmosphere as well. On a nice weekend the Washington & Old Dominion Regional Park (W&OD) is packed with people, from joggers, cyclists, and rollerbladers to folks just taking a walk, bird watching, or enjoying an outdoor barbecue. The fields and playgrounds at our schools, subdivisions and parks are always filled with families playing baseball, soccer, football or tennis.

Ashburn is a special place where big-city opportunities are combined with suburban charm; it’s a city that offers an ideal blend of affordable houses, good jobs, top-rated schools, wide-open spaces, and very little stress. One thing is for sure, I don’t miss the hustle and bustle of DC… and the irony of it all is, I now live five minutes away from that intersection on Belmont Ridge Road where I thought it would take over a hundred years to develop.

I am now a full time real estate agent in Ashburn, helping families such as my own, with buying and selling their most important asset. I assist my clients by taking away the headaches associated with the details and procedures one needs to go through in a real estate transaction, and create a smooth pleasant experience. Ashburn is my hometown; I know it well and am resourceful. My expertise is to help homeowners sell their home in the shortest amount of time and for the most amount of money; I do this through an innovative marketing program unlike others in my field. For the buyers moving into our town, I put my extensive knowledge of the area as well as my contacts at their disposal to get them the house of their dreams, at the lowest price. I am excited about living in Ashburn and have created this website to spread the cheer within our community and bring our unique Ashburn lifestyle into your home.

Sincerely,

Cameron Akhavan
